Proverbs on Conflict

Differing opinions, desires and needs means that there will be some form of disagreement or conflict in this life. However, God’s command for believers is Romans 12:18: “If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men.”

“As much as lies in you” places the onus on us for much of the conflict or lack thereof that we will face.

I. The Source of Sinful Conflict

  • The proud (28:25)
  • The fool (18:6)
  • The scorner (22:10)
  • The angry man (29:22)
  • The gossip (26:20)
  • The contentious (26:21)

II. The Course of Sinful Conflict

  • Pride (13:10) (James 4:1-2)
  • Displeasure & Anger (27:20)
  • Hatred (10:12)
  • Forced Anger – refusal to resolve (30:33)
  • Confusion & Multiplication of Problems (17:14, James 3:16)

III. The Source & Course of Godly Conflict-Resolution

  • Fear of the Lord & Humility (Philippians 2:3)
  • Submission & Contentment (19:11)
  • Love (10:12)
  • Patience (15:18, 16:32; 15:1)
  • Resolution (20:3)
